Piano Improvisation, And Future of Blog
Hello,
In last weeks post I did not have a musical analysis as I was ill, however with my current work rate I will now make the Passages blogs bi-weekly instead, However I do have a new piece of music to share:
This is the second piece in a series of small pieces in which I play music completely improv. I was recording the fireplace in my home in Jersey for a sound effect in another piece of music when I decided to see what it would sound like if I recorded the piano that we have in the same room without moving the mics and the result was very nice. I started by just playing one of the themes from In Music Beats A Heart, but this quickly developed into a completely improvised piece and I really liked the result, all be it rather simple.
My guitar improvisation piece I did is by far my most viewed video on YouTube currently, so maybe I am not the only one who likes stripped back music without the imperfections ironed out in a DAW. On the note of that... this is one creaky piano. It was my mother's as a child but is apparently much older than even my grandparents. According to the Gentleman from our local music shop who tunes it for us it is a 19th century piano and is from Paris. There are several keys that regularly stick on it and it has had several infestations of wood worm, however it has a special place in the heart of everyone in our family and has a wonderful tone and character.
