DISCOGRAPHY AND MEDIA

This page contains a complete and up to date list on my compositional works, my repertoire and a collection of images used as artwork.

Solo Work

> Classical compositions:

Op.1 - Polka and Waltz in E minor for Classical Guitar

Inspired by a mix of Germanic and Russian pieces by composers such as Brahms and Shostakovich, this piece uses a mix of dark harmonic language, playful melodies and virtuosic writing. It was my first submitted piece of music as part of my music degree.

Op.2 - "Classical Blues" for Guitar

An adaptation of an old piece composed back in 2015. This piece experiments with using complex right hand picking patterns and an mix of folk and blues harmonies and is one of the more virtuosic ally challenging pieces I have composed.

Op.3 - "White Shores" Theme and Variations

Composed as an exercise in mixed media art, White Shores tells the words a selection of photographs from around the island of Jersey speak but through a theme and set of variations based on folk melodies and romantic harmonies.

Op.4 - Etude No.1 in E minor for Classical Guitar

This piece is an technical exercise in consistent picking patterns, playing parallel 6ths expressively on the G and high E string of the guitar. Musically the piece explores diminished harmonies and supertonic pedal notes.

Op.5 - "Music for Maritime" Concerto Suite for 5 Violins and Piano

My most extensive and technical compositions, Music for Maritime is a set of 12 short concertos, much like Vivaldi's 4 seasons, however it is inspired by the NESW coasts of Jersey. The pieces mostly draw upon baroque string techniques and writing but also explore minimalism and more romantic era musical language.

Op.6 - Waltz No.1 in A minor

Like Opus 3, this piece was composed originally to accompany a photographic exploration. The piece explores 2 part heterophonic textures as well as delayed cadences.

Op.7 - Folk Suite No.1 in A minor

This composition is a re-arrangement of Opus 1 and Opus 6 for a folk ensemble of Classical and Steel string guitar, Violin and Mandolin and explores counterpoint and instrument texturing.

Op.8 - Folk Suite No.2 in E minor

This composition takes the same ensemble as Opus 7 (Classical and Steel string guitar, Violin and Mandolin) and explores much more traditionally arranged folk tunes including a Cornish 5 step dance, a polka and a Jig.

Op.9 - "In Music Beats a Heart"

In Music Beats a Heart is where my classical and contemporary practices meet, merging complex harmonic passages, folk like melodies and classical acoustic instruments with carefully tuned synthesisers, rock'n'roll guitar parts and ambient, experimental electronically crafted sections. The piece was intended to be an exploration of musical timbre as a 2nd year university assignment and is a favourite of my compositions.

Op.10 - Nocturne No.1 in Eb minor

A short and sweet piece for Piano, Violin and Mandolin, the piece explores heavy use of chord inversion and rapid modulations.

Op.11 - Etude No.2 in E major for Classical Guitar

Subtitled as a study on "modesty" the piece is meant to be played calmly and collectively, almost mediately, without a desire to exaggerate expressions. Technically this study is easy to play but difficult to master.

Op.12 - Etude No.3 in E major for Classical Guitar

A technically challenging study of tremolo picking that also explores complex harmonic devices and multiple voice writing on the instrument. Not only is a good grasp on tremolo picking required but a dexterous right hand thumb is required to bring out bass and inner voices alone.

> Folk music:

Sections of my classical work often contain folk like parts, many of which I have adapted into suitable folk music pieces.

- Corbiere Polka

- 100 ft Jig

- The reeds of St. Ouens

- The Valley of St. Peter

- Devil's hole Jig

- 5 Mile long steps

> Electronic and Experimental:

By clicking on the YouTube icon on the right you will find a collection of much more experimental and fun creations ready for listening.

- Beyond I

- Beyond II

Beyond I & II are long experimental ambient, calming pieces. Pt.1 is an experiment is using EQ bands to distinguish multiple voices from 1 electric guitar with different effects. Pt.2 is an experiment in severely time stretched audio being layered.

- Guitar Improv #1

- Piano Improv #2

2 short improvised pieces. Guitar improv was recorded in 2 parts in which I first improvised a short backing track and did my best to remember it before recording a second solo part. Piano imoprov stared as an experimental mic setup test in which I corner loaded the mics to a lit fire place which creates a warming background noise to a short piano improv based off of the piano part from my composition "In Music Beats a Heart".

- Drop Tuned

An experiment in both extended open chords and using mixing alone to create variation. The mic was only tuned on once in the production of this piece, to record the semi-improvised guitar part (in which all the guitar strings were tuned down a major third). from this recording I created melodic, percussive, texturing and harmonic parts by sampling and editing the 1 recording.

- Thunder and Synths

An experiment in noise oscillator synths in which I attempted to create thunder sounds accompanying a time stretched and layered violin melody.

- Music for Maritime (Ambient)

An adaptation of my concerto suite in which the entire recording was time stretched by 2x and resultingly shifted an octave lower and with layered reverb, this piece is an ever changing relaxing and dreamy journey.

- Górecki Symphony III Movement 1 for Looped Guitar

A re-creation of the first movement from the "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs" with 1 guitar and looping software in a DAW.

- Rocket Launch with Synthesiser

An experiment in which I try to model the changing acoutic properties of the sound created by the Space X Falcon Heavy launch. I used a video from the YouTube channel "The Sound Traveller" for reference.

- Music for Horror game

A piece of music I created for a University assignment to approximate different elements of game composition arranged into 1 piece. This piece uses heavy processing of a high quality virtual piano and samples recorded by myself of cybal scrapes.
